Questions: 1. Make recommendations as to how each of these processes could be improved and why?2. What process does your company employ prior to any significant negotiation?3. In the absence of such a process, what would you put in place, and why? 4. Suggest ways in which this could be improved and why? Answer: 1. The negotiation is considered as the most essential process while performing any business or task. The good negotiating skills are helpful in making the flow of the business in a smooth manner. As the business development manager for the company, I believe that to select the appropriate negotiator, it is essential that the requirement of negotiators can be identified and major objectives related to the negotiation needs to be analyzed. If the attributes related to the negotiation are well defined, then it becomes easy to choose the most suitable negotiator. Negotiation is the pre-step before initiating any new venture. If the negotiation is not clearly done, then it will create the issues for the further processes in the organization. Other than this, I prefer the selection of the negotiators on the basis of their market position, the availability of the stakeholders to manage or hold the risk, the capability to complete the demands on time and many other aspects (MindTools team, 2016). There are various organizations in UAE which are using various negotiation tools to manage negotiation issues. The use of the tools help in analyzing the 360 degree aspect of the negotiation. After this, the selection of the negotiators is possible. For an example Arab Tec is a famous construction company which is renowned for constructing the most famous building of UAE and also uses some of the specific tools and techniques for choosing the negotiators. While, the Warid telecommunications selects the negotiators after considering their current market position and the contribution of the stakeholders. Similarly, as a business development manager, its my personal responsibility to manage the transparent sequential steps to manage the process of negotiation and mentoring the negotiators. In reference to the UAE, the selection process is quite different. In the UAE, to train the negotiators, the various learning programs are defined on the wide level. In fact, the cross cultural training program and the business dealings are also being defined on the large scale (Hunter, 2016). In my opinion, the appropriate mentoring and the e-learning programs are also framed for training the negotiators By this, the critical aspects will become easier and methods of solving the problems can be identified easily as well. The different negotiation process can be improved by executing the different types of tools and techniques. It is essential for improvement because with the changing scenario continuously, the improvement in adapting and executing is must required. Without implementing the new techniques in the processes, the development aspects cannot be fulfilled. So, for improving and managing the process, I prepared the new plans and also tried to manage the technical aspects of the negotiation and mentoring program. The modern techniques and u se of appropriate models, it will help in assisting and changing the phase of the negotiation in the society and in the organization as well. 2. To perform the suitable and significant negotiation, it is essential to adopt the appropriate methods of the negotiation. To perform the appropriate negotiation, suitable steps are taken into consideration. By following these steps, it becomes easy to perform the suitable task of the negotiation (Craver, 2011). In UAE, the task of negotiation is considered as the toughest task of any project. For managing the process of negotiation in UAE, three elements are taken into consideration. These elements are named as the Identification of the suitable objectives Identification of the other persons objective Basis conditions for the negotiation By identifying these three key elements, it becomes easier to perform the negotiation in a well-defined manner. These three steps are considered as the core steps while performing the suitable negotiation process for any organization. In fact, all the companies select these steps for suitable skills for the negotiation. Similarly, the major organizations of the UAE also adapt these steps to present the significant negotiation. In the first step, the identification of the suitable objectives is defined. It means that the negotiating organization has to set their specific objectives. In the second step, the objectives of the other organizations are required to be accessed, so that the equal coordination between two of them can be maintained. It means that both the parties (i.e. the organizers and the negotiator organization) look forward for the equal coordination and support from each other. Finally, the basis of the negotiation is being found out (Florence, 2014). By identifying the base, it would become easier to negotiate. In this scenario, the purpose of the negotiation can be identified. Various studies prove that the different type of negotiation methods are helpful in identifying that whether the negotiation can be done in a hard manner or it can be processed in an easy way. After completing all these steps, the process of negotiation can now become result oriented and the suitable output can also be generated. This method is helpful as by following these steps in the sequential manner, it will lead to maintaining the flow of the process in an appropriate direction. The sequential steps will also be providing the suitable criteria for the negotiation and subsequent, the chances of the positive output may also be increased. Rather than these methods of negotiation, there are some other direct methods as well which are helpful in doing the negotiations. But its not possible to identify that whether the direct methods are successful or not. 3. The post negotiation and review process are also considered as the most important process, because in this process it can be easily identified that whether the process of negotiation is working in the appropriate direction or not. The post negotiation process includes the phases of its implementation and monitoring.The suitable flow of the process and the major sections of the negotiation are being identified with the help of the monitoring process. Through the monitoring process the bargaining techniques and the negotiation techniques are also identified (Virginia, 2012). While discussing the post negotiation process, it is essential to manage the suitable review process for the negotiation. To review the process of negotiation, the suitable checklist is identified which check whether the process is doing well or not. In fact for checking the efficiency also, the checklist of the suitable items will help a lot. This checklist will further help in defining the major aspects related to the negotiation. The checklist will also facilitate the opportunity for the critical discussion and the critical overview of the major perspectives related to the negotiation. For example, as mentioned above that the Arab Tec is considered as the famous construction company in the UAE. While dealing with the other company, there are various aspects which are signed and the negotiation also occur. To measure that the negotiation process is going well or not, the suitable ideas and the reviews are generated from the co organizations. By this, the developmental aspects of th e organization can be identified easily. With the help of these reviews, the appropriate feedback can also be received which provide the best options for the negotiation. The checklist will be helpful in checking the completion of the task which is decided prior to initiation of the deal or the project. With the help of the checklist, all the basic aspects related to the negotiation are clearly identified in the well-defined manner (Maiese, 2003). But with these fruitful effects, there are some critical aspects too which affect the post negotiation process. The selection of the techniques and tools related to the post negotiation process are not always appropriate. The selection of the incorrect tools and technique will definitely affect the current or ongoing process of the negotiation. The other issue which can be created by the availability of the checklist. As the completion of the project relates to negotiation, so there are the possibilities of changing the checklist again and again. The generation of the error is very common and due to this, the critical aspects of the negotiation can be easily visible. In fact, due to the stakeholders critical aspects of the negotiation are easily identified. There are various stakeholders as well, who is creating the issues before completing the process of the negotiation. So, it is required to define or complete the appropriate process of the negotiation process associated with the d efined checklist, implementation and subsequent monitoring under properly so that appropriate feedback can be obtained. 4. The effective negotiation is considered as the key to success towards the organization. To define the effective negotiation, the example of the organization is taken into consideration. Personally , I believe that for managing the process of negotiation , different styles needs to be taken into consideration. Sometimes, the hard skills are adapted for the negotiation and sometimes the soft skills are also adapted. (Ball, et al., 2011). For defining the practical example of the organization named as the Omnicom, which is the media based company is taken into consideration. The Omnicom is considered as the high profile company in the UAE and also provide the different services related to the media and its process. Being the high profile company it has to deal with the different organizations and also change the different policies related to the negotiation. Some of the aspects related to the negotiation are shown below. As a manager, to manage the situation, I adapted the method of gamesmanship. In this type of negotiation method, to gain the advantage is the primary goal for the success. I also preferred various steps to complete the process of the negotiation. Some of the common factors are the goals, trades, alternatives, relationships, expected outcomes, consequences, power and the possible solutions (Hengsle, 2013). By adapting these steps, the organization can help to develop the suitable negotiating skills. On personal level, I firstly set the appropriate goals and then started the process of trading. As the company is dealing with the media and the aspects related to the media, so the trading can be done as per the requirement. I will also try to manage the suitable relationship with the dealing party to manage the alternatives and agreements. There are various consequences which are defined while considering the aspects related to the negotiation. The company also tried to manage the conseq uences. After this, the possible solutions are tried to find out so that the negotiation can be done thoroughly. But, as the company is very big, the chances of errors are also increased subsequently. So, the chances for improvement are also required for the scenario. I will also try to implement various practical tools and techniques for the improvement of the negotiating skills. Both the simple and the hard type of negotiation skills can be implemented for bringing the change in the system. The negotiation is not considered as the one sided process and it cannot be completed without the consent of both the parties so as to bring the change, it is essential to compromise with the scenario and also tries to find out the most appropriate solutions to manage the suitable process. It is essential to improve the existing process because the improvement in the negotiation aspect will be helpful in providing the appropriate outcome. The other aspects for the improvement of the negotiation skills are the identification of the suitable timeline and the alternatives for the improvement. Heart Of Darkness And Lies A lie is an untruth. It can be a false statement or a statement left unsaid which causes someone to be misled. In life, lies are told for many different reasons. In fiction, they thicken the plot and overall setting of the story. In Conrad's Heart of Darkness, Marlow dislikes lies and therefore only tells two, both in extraordinary circumstances. Thus, these lies show the following about Marlow: even though he has been touched by evil, he is still a good man himself. He never actually tells a lie, but lets others continue to believe what they already believe in which case helps him justify the lies. Marlow, in the middle of his story, interrupts himself to say, "You know I hate, detest, and can't bear a lie." He does not think he is better than the rest of the world. Lies simply appall and disgust him immensely. Marlow feels there is a "taint of death, and a flavor of mortality in lies." Lying makes him feel "miserable and sick, like biting something rotten would do." Since he feels this way, he would only tell a lie in the most exceptional state of affairs. The first lie was told by Marlow in extraordinary circumstances. It was told because he had a notion it would somehow be of help to Mr. Kurtz. The lie was to allow the brick maker to think he had more influence in the company than he actually had. This lie would help Kurtz in two ways. Firstly, it would help Marlow to get the rivets he needed to fix the boat, and that would provide Kurtz with a means of communication, or a way out of the jungle. Secondly, it would provide Kurtz with an ally who was perceived as powerful. Marlow knew that others were jealous of the success of Mr. Kurtz. Some saw him as the next "Director of the Company," and some were trying to find a reason to hang him. If Marlow was considered powerful, he might be able to help Mr. Kurtz in some way. This is an excellent reason for telling a lie. 2 The second lie was also told in extraordinary circumstances. It is told to "the intended" so that the image of her dead fiance would not be destroyed. She has waited at least two years for her lover to return from Africa, and now he is dead. During this time, she has built his image up in her mind. To her, Kurtz is a man to be admired. She feels it would be "impossible not to love him." She was proud to have been engaged to Kurtz, and would be shocked to learn of the things he had done to people and the surrounding environment. Marlow had to decide if he should tell her the truth about Kurtz and cause her even greater grief, or let her go on believing that he was a good man. Thus, this example was one in which Marlow could tell a lie. The significance of this lie is that it would serve no purpose to tell the truth, so Marlow does not. Kurtz is dead and to tell the truth would only hurt an innocent woman. She had no idea that her fiance had an evil heart. She thought that he was loved and admired by everyone who knew him. If she learned of the things he had done, it would destroy her. Marlow showed his good side by not telling her the truth about Kurtz. This is a suitable ending to the work because it means that even though Marlow has met a man with a "Heart of Darkness," and that even after facing his own darkness, he has come out of the jungle unchanged, for the most part. He is still a good human being with feelings and a sense of right and wrong. Marlow never actually vocalized a lie. He simply allowed others to continue to believe an untruth. First, the brick maker thought Marlow was more influential than he actually was, and Marlow allowed him to continue to believe that. Secondly, the intended thought her fianc was a good man, and Marlow allowed her to continue to believe that. Since he never actually vocalized a lie, he was better able to justify them to himself. 3 Marlow dislikes lies, and only tells them in extraordinary circumstances. When he does lie, it is for the sake of others, not himself. This shows that he is a kind

The fact remains both a forms governments to control the inhabitants and to lead them so that their life might become better.* The United States gives its citizens the right to periodicly elect their leaders. When the United States entered Vietnam after the French lost the war in 1954, why did it feel, it was necessary to choose to fight the Ho Chi Men lead communists, without even allowing the Vietnamese people a chance to elect their own leader under a free parlimentory electoral system. The Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968 Robert McNamara saw the Vietnam conflict escalate from 100 American advisors in 1961 to over 275,000 troops during the time of his departure. Vietnam was caught in a revolution, not unlike the civil war, split in two, north versus south. The battle lines where drawn, the 17th parellel the boundry, the communist state split to the north and a democratic state to the south. McNamaras memoirs In Retrospect: The Tragedy and Lessons of Vietnam describes his powerful position in the Cabinet under the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. According to McNamara, the United States policy towards Southeast Asia was defined when President Eise nhower delivered his now famous, and widely publized 1956 speech. In which he declared Loas to be the cornerstone to a free world in Southeast Asia. He continued on to explain to the American people if Loas fell to communism it would lead to a domino effect in the rest of Asia and soon onto the rest of world. At the time of this speech Loas political leadership was in turmoil and in danger of turning into a communist state. McNamara uses his memoir as a chance to explain to both the American people and himself what went wrong in Indochina. He starts his story with a brief explanation of where he came from and how he came about to become the Secretary of Defense. McNamara studies extend from University of California at Berkley then to the Harvard business school. He then went on to work for the Ford Motor company where he was selected to be one of the whiz kids, a group of men selected to keep pace and compete with the newly formed General Motors cooperation. It was only in the year 1951 when Ingvar Kamprad focused on furniture and withdrew all the other products from its product line. In the same year, the first catalogue of furniture was published and then later in order to make its presence felt in the competition, the first showroom of furniture was opened in a village named Almhult. Challenges Social Work In Scotland Today Social Work Essay Doing more of the same wont work (Changing Lives: 21st Century Review of Social Work, Scottish Executive 2006) Why is this? Discuss with reference to some of the challenges that face social work in Scotland today. The role of a social worker has become a grey area and subsequently undergone necessary scrutiny to establish what needs to be done to improve the use of a social workers time, the relationships built between the service users and providers, and how to adapt to and cater to the service users complex and challenging needs. It became particularly relevant in 2004, when Scottish Ministers registered the need for change, and put together a challenging brief asking William Roe to chair the 21st Century Social Work Review. This review asked those involved to question all aspects of social work, and to examine what could be done to fundamentally change, and improve the work of the social worker, and the successive result that had on the service users. It became apparent that as we are living in an ever changing society, social work itself needs to change so that it can match our countrys expectations for high quality, accessible, responsive and personalised services. There were many factors that instigated the need for change, and reasons why this review came to fruition. The demands for change are now so important partly due to the media coverage that has show major gaps and careless work from social workers. In some cases, social workers have stood by, acting only when an incident occurs, instead of preventing it from happening. This becomes clear in the case of Miss X, as it highlights that Caseloads for social workers in community care in the two offices concerned with the Ms X case were all over 70, while one had a caseload of over 100, and another had more than 120 cases. It also states that A study by the Scottish Executive last year had revealed that Scottish Borders Council social workers had the highest caseloads of any authority in Scotland. The case of Baby P, know known to be Peter Connelly, is another example of what some might call neglect by the social services. Interestingly Peter had lived in an area of London that was under the same child care authorities as Victoria Climbie, another child of a failed case. The services involved with these cases have been widely criticised, and enquiries have been made. It has been said in an article in the guardian Social workers believed Baby Ps mother was a caring but inadequate parent who just needed support. This quote highlights the lack of attention given to the case from the social worker, due to rigour and lack of time given. Although excellent work was being carried out in other areas of social work, just these few examples are enough to show that there was much need for change in the social services, and the 21st Century Social Work Review discusses what these changes are. It became clear when putting together Changing Lives: 21st Century Review of Social Work, that doing more of the same wouldnt work. The problems within the social care sector were deeper and in need of more attention than simply doing more of the same work. It has been stated by the Users and Carers panel that this is an unsustainable direction for social work services and that simply pouring ever more public resources into a service based on welfare models rather than the promotion of individual wellbeing will not, in itself, achieve a sustainable future Needless to say, there have been numerous examples of success with service users, where the social worker has provided an excellent service and transformed the lives of people in need, but the evidence for the need for improvement has outweighed the evidence for the somewhat limited outstanding work. Therefore the Review looks at the challenges to tackle, as well as the strengths that can be built upon and improved further. Looking at the major issues and challenges that faced social workers, we can see a trend emerging that suggests a huge lack of confidence, and this is due to the lack of clarity within their field of work. Unreasonable expectations of what, and how much a social worker can do also provides problems, as these expectations clearly cannot be met, and then a sense of failure kicks in, that subsequently has an effect on other work that is being carried out, creating a negative cycle. Risk is another factor that social workers need to carefully consider. This again has a negative cycle effect; the social worker takes fewer risks, as they feel the need to protect themselves from media and political criticism, but this then leads to a less focused and in depth relationship with the service user. It must also be noted, that previously social workers that are fully qualified and skilled had been doing work that didnt in fact require that level of knowledge and expertise. This is partly due to lack of staff in the service care sector, but also with bad organisation, and not using these skilled workers to the best of their abilities. These social workers are not being put to the best of their ability. Finance is an issue within social work, as without the funds, the service cannot be provided. A social worker has posted their concerns on a discussion group on the internet, and this reads as follows; Lack of funding is by far the biggest challenge in social work today. Many social service agencies are currently experiencing hiring freezes. This leads to larger case loads and less time being given to each client. This is true regardless of the population that is being served. Unfortunately, due to our poor economy, more and more people need the assistance of social workers. Financial hardship causes homelessness, child abuse, and a multitude of other issues, but there is no funding available to assist existing clients, much less new clients that are being affected by the rec ession. This really highlights the urgency for funding, and is further emphasised within the Review by the User and Carer Panel, there are fewer taxpayers and more people needing services, so there is not enough money to fund these services. Another problem that has faced social work is the discrepancy between care and control. This leads to an ambiguous relationship between the provider and the user, which needs to be addressed in order for the user to feel comfortable enough to make the most of the service. The Users and Carers Panel have stated, Services should meet the needs of people. People shouldnt have to fit services. Social workers should be allowed the time to get to know their clients really well, so that they really understand the different needs of each individual. Changes in context and society are other reasons that the role of a social worker needed to be examined, demographic, socio-economic and political trends have driven significant change in social work services since landmark legislation that underpins social work today. There are a number of major trends that are expected to affect how the social care services are delivered in the future. Some of these include; an ageing population, this is particularly important as the number of people over 75 years of age has risen an enormous amount and it is thought to have increased by 60% by 2028, therefore 25% of the U.K population will be over 60. The increase being due to advances in science and medicine actually puts forward a huge challenge for social services, as these 25% of people, 60% of which are predicted to have long term conditions, will be handed over to the care of the social services. Children in need remain a significant proportion of those requiring the care of the social servi ces, especially as they become older and leave care. It is stated in the review that 60% leave school with no qualification and a similar proportion dont enter employment, education or training and as many as 20% become homeless within a year. As this is know a known and accepted problem, it can be addressed and concentrated on by social workers in the child sector. As well as Children, those suffering from disabilities, stress, anxiety and depression are in need of care and support from social workers, and the demand is only increasing as medical advances allow for disabled individuals to live longer than they may have been able to in the past. Other society related problems that demand a change in the social sector are fractured relationships, social polarisation and shrinking workforce. All the issues touched upon here are inextricably linked to the latter, shrinking workforce, and if this is to continue, the ideas and hopes for the future will be unable to take affect. The most important factors when considering the new direction for the future of social work are capacity and effective use of resources. In all areas capacity needs to be built upon to achieve the required results. If the capacity is increased, the social worker can deliver personalised services and sustainable change. Both of the latter are extremely important for the future of social work, as said in chapter 5 of the review, personalising the delivery of public services is an explicit goal of Scottish policy, and this is even more relevant today as we live in a time of great choice and opportunity. Increasingly this means that we want and expect personalised services. It is so important to encourage the strengths of the individual and to work with them through the use of a therapeutic approach to make changes and regain their independence. This then links to the very important factor, giving service users a sense of independence and self assurance. This is made clear in Kieron Hatt ons book New Directions in Social work Practice, as he refers to the discussion of the common third. This is essentially a practice in which neither (the service user or provider) is the expert and in which each makes an equal contribution the purpose is to develop the self-esteem and self-confidence of the person using the service so that they can take that new self belief forward into other areas of their lives and become fully empowered citizens. This shows a vibrant new idea that will help social workers deal with their service users in hand, rather than maintaining them. This idea is further highlighted by the Users and Carers panel from the Changing Lives, 21st Century Social Work Review stating there needs to be a power shift away from the people who commission and provide services to service users and carers When considering all of the factors mentioned, it becomes clear that Social Work demanded a change or a new outlook. However, it could be argued that if there was an increase in workforce, who then released the extraordinary work loads of under pressure social workers more service users would be helped, and more successful outcomes would come about. Yet, it cannot be denied that even if this was a possibility, which unfortunately it is not due to a lack of new workers, the 21st Century demands more interaction, hence forming better relationships, more funding, and a bigger workforce, all of which contribute to the fact that doing more of the same wont work, and the challenges and changes put forward by the Changing Lives review are positive suggestions for new directions that will change peoples life and make a difference. Using a push strategy usually costs less money and draws more business, because companies negotiate with large vendors. For example, a producer selling a product to Walmart can receive most of its business from a single retail outlet, allowing the business to focus on its product manufacturing and supply chain while worrying less about its relationship with customers. Cons: 1. The competition may have it all wrong and have no idea about what customers really want, so trying to work around the competition’s messaging may be pointless, since they all have it wrong anyways-and company probably do too since the company haven’t spoken to any customers 2. Push strategies can rely too heavily upon large vendors, which limit a business’ pricing and flexibility when selling a product. For example, a large producer like Walmart may dictate the price at which the business can sell its products. Pull Examples of companies are a) A good example of a pull is the heavy advertising and promotion of children’s’ toys, Toyrus. Consumers will go to ToyRUs and ask for a toy that was advertised on the television, and then ToyRus will ask the wholesalers who will then ask the producers about the product and meet the demand. b) Second example is car manufacturing company, Ford Australia. Ford Australia only produces cars when they have been ordered by the customers.
